May 2007 It is with outrage and sadness that one of the nicest black feral male cats was shot deliberately by someone in the area.Charley was put to sleep by our local vet after much anguish. The wound was extensive and terribly painful and unfortunately costs were prohibitively high for the complete amputation of his right front leg and therapy.

March 2007 Miss Kitty, in photo 1 was recently spade and given inoculations, dewormed, and flea treated. This was approximately $100 worth of treatment. We currently have one male and one female who need spading and neutering and their inoculations.

Cats Defined
Free-roaming: a cat not confined to a house or other enclosure.

Feral: a cat too poorly socialized to be handled and who cannot be placed into a typical home; a subpopulation of free-roaming cats.

Abandoned: a free-roaming cat who may be tame but does not currently have an owner.

Stray: a currently or recently owned cat who may be lost; usually well-socialized but may become wary over time. A stray’s kittens may be feral.

Fozzie's Friends

Feral and Stray Cats need your help and to help them, I started this internet services site to raise awareness about them. Every day there are thousands of cats and kittens living with out the benefit of a caring pet owner or shelter.

While Fozzie and I can not save or reach all these beautiful animals we can help them by asking you to support your local feral cat groups. To find the nearest ones or get advice on how to organize try searching for links online.

Here in my community I support anywhere from 12 to 25 cats annually. We provide food, shelter and medical attention. If you would like to help Fozzie's Friends, know that you do so each time you get a domain name and/or a webhosting product.

What is the solution?

Removing and killing feral cats does not reduce feral cat populations. This opens up the territory (as a feral cat population is territorial) for more cats to move in and start the breeding process all over again. Government sanctioned hunting does not work for the same reason and the effect of hunting pet species on younger hunters can be traumatic. Trap and Kill is a temporary solution that continues the endless cycle of breeding and killing.

Trap-Neuter-Return or TNR

Is a humane method of feral cat population control, is more effective than trap and kill, and it is more reflective of a caring human community. Feral cat populations are gradually reduced. Nuisance behaviors associated with breeding, such as the fighting, yowling and spraying are virtually eliminated. The spread of disease and malnutrition are greatly reduced. The cats live healthier, safer, and more peaceful lives in their territories. The animals are captured and transported to a veterinarian who performs neutering or spaying to prevent wild born litters. The animal is released into the wild again to live out their lives with less stress living in the colonies.

"It is estimated that the feral cats living on the streets of the United States number in the tens of millions."
